In light of a new administration taking power after January 20th 2009, I thought it would be a great idea to take a look back at the last 8 years of George Bush’s administration.
Obviously the administration has been marred with a number of decisions that have been deemed questionable, if not ridiculous, but I would like to discuss some of the good things that took place in America as a result of George Bush being in office.
He decided to undertake a number of different tasks. He increased funding for the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Health. He helped change Medicare by signing the Medicare Act of 2003, which gave elderly people better choices and more control over their healthcare. He also spear headed the No Child left Behind Act ,which despite current sentiments against it has actually helped increase American student’s test scores in math and reading. He also has made an attempt to reform social security, which is in desperate need of it.
In addition to his ideas for social reform, he has also made an attempt to make our country safer. After the attacks on our country in 2001, he announced a global war on terror that not only has decreased terrorist attacks in America but also the world.
Some people consider the last 8 years to be some of the darkest in our country’s history but most of the misfortunes that have happened to this country in that time have not been his fault. When a new administration takes power in a few months, remember the last 8 years and the struggle it takes to be a great president. Maybe the next administration should take some notes because despite what you’ve heard about George Bush, the highest approval ratings for an American president in the history of our country speak for themselves.
