I scream; you scream. We all scream for ice cream! This was definitely the case for Ice Cream Olympics 2009, the annual event held for residents of TWC. Mayfield Dairy donated about 36 half gallon tubs of three different varieties of ice cream, and it was put to good use. There were seven different events in which to participate.
Each of the four residence halls had a chance to show they could get down and dirty with a little syrup and ice cream. The first event was the Root Beer Float Relay was dominated by residents at Nocatula, who were the first contestants to compose a root beer float and muster up a burp! The second event was the Jelly Bean Pie contest, and after many faces full of whipped cream Fowler hall had the victory.
The third event was the Sundae Style Chubby Bunny, a favorite of all the students. This event consisted of each participant to hold a marshmallow in their mouth, proceeded by a shot of syrup and the final test of being able to say “chubby bunny” after each and every marshmallow. Although the competition was close, Fowler was the champion with an intake of 21 marshmallows. Event number four was the Dibs toss, which was also taken by Fowler Hall.
Fowler seemed to have taken over the Ice Cream Olympics, at least until Nocatula won the fifth event - the Ice Cream Mouth Sundae. The object was to build the tallest sundae in the resident’s mouth. The next event, Musical Balloons, made sure that if you were not yet doused in ice cream, syrup, or sprinkles, you wished you were. The balloons were filled with everything from pickles to milk! The balloon was passed around the circle of contestants and when the music stopped the balloon full of mess was be popped on your head. This oh so messy event was swept up by Wesley Commons.
Finally, there was the Ice Cream Eating Contest. The member from each residence hall was given a box of a dozen Brown Cows and allowed three minutes to eat as many as possible. Who else but the big eaters themselves, the boys of Fowler, ate the ice cream novelties and then some, thus receiving their final victory. When all the events were scored, members of Fowler Hall were declared winners Ice Cream Olympics 2009!!
