With the beginning of a new year comes a new chapter for TWC’s Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Activities Board (SAB). The creation of two new organizations, preparations for homecoming, and keeping up with classwork has kept members of SGA and SAB busy throughout the first part of the year!
For starters, two brand new organizations have been created on campus. The Community is an inclusive “GLBST” (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Straight, and Transgender) organization for those who support the tolerance of LGBT issues and are proponents of hate-crime prevention and AIDs awareness. This is quite an accomplishment for TWC, especially since many competing schools have already had such a club for several years now.
A new dance team has also been organized. The dance team performs much like the cheerleaders, but don’t get those two confused! Performing routines at TWC events throughout the year, the dance team is sure to be a crowd pleaser for all who see them.
SGA has also revamped their website! Everyone is welcome to visit it! Simply go to www.twcnet.edu/sgaweb to find the latest student newsletters, SGA meeting minutes, as well as SGA meeting agendas! You can also find out who to contact on the SGA Executive Board if you have any questions, but most importantly learn what it is that SGA can do for you!
Now for the Student Activities Board, referred to as SAB around campus. On October 2-4, 2009, Gray Wattenbarger and Lauren Flores attended the National Association for College Activities Southern Regional Conference. Wattenbarger and Flores came back from TWC with new ideas for activities and events on campus and a brand new outlook on student involvement!
Angie Watts, advisor to the Student Activities Board, has organized a committee to help spruce up the Student Activities Center (SAC) and give it a fresh feel! The committee, called the SAC Decorating Committee, is working on getting new decorations for the SAC and giving it a new look and make it more exciting for students.
Unfortunately, Galaxy Bowling has decided to close down, causing students much disappointment. Normally, there is a night monthly where students can bowl for free, and it is usually themed.
Angie Watts, Assistant Dean of Students, is currently working on finding out when TWC students can attend the bowling night once again, but until further notice, the alley is closed indefinitely.
It’s easy to see that TWC’s SGA and SAB are staying busy and keeping on top of things! All year long they work hard for the students here at good ol’ T-Dub! Stay tuned for the latest update of what’s going on with TWC’s SGA and SAB!
