Halloween is typically a night of fiendish sights, candy delights, and bone-chilling frights. All of these qualities were found in abundance on Halloween night at TWC. The children and students of Athens could be seen traipsing around in various costumes – some silly, some scary, all wonderful to witness.
Keith Hall was the setting of trick-or-treating, where each of the floors was decorated in a Disney/Pixar movie theme: the first floor was Finding Nemo, the second floor was Toy Story, and the third was Monsters, Inc. Because of the rainy weather, the carnival was moved from Wesley Commons to the gym, where TWC students painted faces, held a cupcake walk, made paper flowers, and hosted carnival games for the children. The carnival was also where the local clubs in Athens held a costume contest for all ages.
If trick-or-treating or carnival games didn’t satisfy the Halloween spirit, the haunted house in Fowler Hall was definitely worth attending. I was one of the first to experience it this year. There were originally six people in my group who were supposed to go through the haunted house, a boy, three girls and a chaperone – and myself. But the three girls were almost hysterical with terror when the girl at the beginning of the haunted house came rushing at us; so the girls and their chaperone left. I think the idea of the haunted house was to show all of the crazy, homicidal people in the world in one spooky maze, because I was definitely spooked. I hope next Halloween will be twice as fun as this one was.
