The men’s and women’s basketball teams faced off against the Reinhardt College Eagles on Wednesday, February 17. The TWC Lady Bulldogs played first, with the women’s Reinhardt team gaining an early lead at the start of the first half. TWC got their act together, and by halftime, the Lady Bulldogs were tied with Reinhardt’s Lady Eagles 27-27. During the second half the game grew even fiercer, with both the Lady Eagles and the Lady Bulldogs earning fouls every few seconds. At one point in the second half, Tennessee Wesleyan and Reinhardt were tied 47-47, but the Lady Bulldogs made some three-point shots to win the game with a score of 59-49.
As the men’s game started, the intensity could be felt throughout the whole gymnasium. It appeared that each team was evenly matched and amazingly fast. Both teams quickly scored points in the opening minutes. The Bulldogs and Eagles fought back-and-forth for the lead throughout the first half. The intensity made the game nearly impossible to tear your eyes away from, even for a second. At the end of the first half, the TWC Bulldogs had a slight lead of 44-40. Then, the game started going downhill for the Bulldogs as the second half started. Free throw shots were missed. A few crucial calls by the referees seemed to favor Reinhardt. Tempers in the audience ran high. Despite these concerns, the TWC fans rallied together to root for the home team in the last few seconds of the game. A three-pointer was attempted, but to no avail. The TWC Bulldogs lost to the Reinhardt Eagles 78-75.
