The Contemporary Christian groups Sidewalk Prophets & The Blue City Band will perform in concert on August 26, 2010 at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Advance ticket holders have a chance to win a meet and greet with both bands. TWC students can attend the concert for free and received convocation credit.
“This is going to be a great concert,” said Mark Hutchinson, owner of Legacy Productions, which is sponsoring the concert.
General Public Tickets are available at the JAVA in Athens and Life Way Book Stores in Cleveland, Chattanooga, and Knoxville. Advance ticket holders can register on-line at the Legacy Recording Studio website or Blue City Band website for the meet and greet.
The Sidewalk Prophets won the 2010 Dove Award for New Artist of the Year, and have toured with Jeremy Camp, Stellar Kart, and Audio Adrenaline. They also appeared on the 2010 Winter Jam Tour Spectacular and have shared the stage with the groups Newsboys and Third Day. They also appeared at the recent J-Fest in Chattanooga.
The Blue City Band will open the outdoor concert. They recently opened for Third Day at Riverbend, were a featured band at J-Fest and the Ichthus Festival in Kentucky, and have recently released their premier self-titled CD – “The Blue City Band”.
The Sidewalk Prophets originators Dave Frey and Ben McDonald crossed paths when they were attending Indiana’s Anderson University.
“One of the first things we ever did as a band was to lead worship at chapel in college,” said Frey.
“We love performing,” Dave Frey says simply and you get the impression that is the simple truth. “But we also love the people we perform for,” he adds, injecting a layer of complexity to the equation.
McDonald adds, “That was the connect point for us. Although we don’t consider ourselves to be a worship band, we probably do more worship music than our original music, and that’s fine with us.”
Their release, “These Simple Truths”, explodes from the speakers with sparkling pop, raucous rock, and beautiful ballads that convince even the most jaded listener that these guys know how to craft intelligent, inspired music that fits comfortably inside the box, but may not be content to stay there.
Band members include Frey on lead vocals, McDonald on guitar, Cal Joslin on bass, and Justin Nace on drums. The band is based in Nashville.
Opening at the TWC concert is the Athens, TN based Blue City Band. They are continuing to make their mark on the area Christian Music Scene with a unique Christian Blues/Rock venue.
The group is known for their unique vocals and driving instrumental solos. The four-piece band features bass player and lead singer Joseph Gordon, brother John Gordon on guitar and organ, drummer John Knox, and vocalist and lead guitarist Brent Womac. Also appearing at the concert with The Blue City Band will be special guest Ronald Kent Clayton on saxophone.
“This concert promises to be a great event for East Tennessee,” Hutchinson said. “Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a great concert!”
