In a world filled with money, celebrities, and Facebook, it is hard for today’s generation to imagine a world where, not only are these things nonexistent, but war and atrocious crimes are being committed right outside of many people’s homes. On February 21, 2010, “Invisible Children,” a group based out of San Diego that is focused on ending the war in Uganda, presented Tennessee Wesleyan students with a documentary meant to inspire us all to stand up for our beliefs and take action for others who are less fortunate than ourselves. The Mortal Instruments was first suggested to me by a younger friend, and I will admit that I was quite reluctant to read it. The first thing I thought was, “Oh God, not another poorly-written, teeny-bopper fantasy book.” After much coercion, I finally agreed to read the first book in Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments Series entitled City Of Bones. Have you ever wondered why history repeats itself? I know I have. I am especially concerned with our government and the path that it is on. This path is not good when it includes the passing of The Health Care Reform Bill and the passed Cap and Trade Bill. The Cap and Trade Bill is a big problem. When you restrict capitalism and the flow of money through an economy, it suffers dramatically. The Health Care Bill will not help the economy either. People are not going to want to give more money to a government that is already taking lots of money from them and not giving them very good benefits to supplement the taken taxes. Now, I know I am biased when it comes to all things political, but I still wonder why people think that socialism is the way for our government to head. Continue Reading »
