Tennessee Wesleyan’s fall sports are here. That means long practice days and the smell of uniforms all across campus. TWC is known for its sports and charismatic fans. The fall sports include bowling, cross country, golf, soccer, and volleyball. To kick this year off with a bang we have the inside scoop to a few of the fall athletics.
Volleyball is a rising sport here at Tennessee Wesleyan College. With their record being 6-5 in the conference they are off to a battling start. Senior, Amber Taylor had a few encouraging words to say about their team this year. “I could not be more proud of my team. I would not want to leave this program as a senior any other way. I am happy with our results even though our overall record is not the best, what he have shown is character with what we do.” Volleyball will continue on into November.
Another sport shaking things up is soccer. The men’s team overall record is 6-5-1. The women’s team is 5-6-1. After a dedicated few years of playing senior Kaitlyn Poulakis had a few words to shine a light on the current season. “I could say that we have had some mixed results, but not all of them have been good indicators of the potential of the team we have this year. We have some freshmen who have come in and really made a difference. We have a lot of talent on our team, but more importantly we have had a lot of heart. We are in 3rd place in conference as of right now, but the tournament is really what it all comes down to. I have big hopes for this team and I know we have everything it takes to win.”
One sport that has been bringing in some attention is women’s golf. They had a record breaking low round of 306 along with breaking the school tournament record with a 618 at Reinhardt Invitation. Coach Stan Harrison made a shout out expressing how proud he was of this young team. “I was very pleased and excited about the way we played. I was especially happy for Kinsley Vincent as she had her first career tournament win. I hope this outcome will serve to convince the team of how well they are capable of playing and to give them confidence in their abilities.”
Tennessee Wesleyan takes pride in its student athletes regardless of the records at the end of a season. The athletes are held to a standard of not only athletics and academics, but also their character. Heart goes a long way in the athletic world and TWC has nothing short than that. Fans, grab your pumpkin spice lattes and get ready for a season full of excitement.
